The Bardo Thodol — “Liberation Through Hearing in the Intermediate State” — is meant to be read aloud to the dying and recently deceased. It maps six bardos (intermediate states), including those after death, and offers instructions at each for recognizing the luminous mind and avoiding entanglement in fearful projections that lead to another birth.
The implicit teaching for the living: everything it says about the after-death bardos is equally true of this life. The confusion is continuous; the opportunity for recognition is continuous.
